Course Structure
Trainees receive a focus in school greater than most other courses available. The entire focus of your year is to become the best teacher that you can be in that time.
You may wonder why you will pay £9,000, the same as you will pay to achieve QTS with PGCE with other providers. The answer is simple. Your money will be used to provide you with support from a specialist teacher with a track record of excellent teaching and results, as well as from other experienced members of staff and work colleagues. You will receive personalised support every week of the course.
Your mentor will be responsible, with you, for your development across the year. They will help you with getting to grips with aspects of the syllabus in your subject that you may not have encountered before. They will guide you on a range of different pedagogies, ways of teaching, which will be appropriate for you to develop to teach children of different ages and abilities in secondary schools in your subject. They will help you to manage behaviour for learning in different situations. They will help you to reflect on every aspect of your teaching, helping you to become the best teacher that you can be. They will lead you through the school year, helping you to be ready for each new experience that you encounter. Your mentor will be there for you and with you, making you the best you can be. No matter how good you become, they will not stop and let you think that you have made it. They will work with you, helping you to hone your practise, not settling for an 'outstanding' grade, but will continue to help you to become better still.
Your training will take you into two different schools, and the same personalised provision will be delivered in each.
We work with partner schools which are special schools. Should you be placed in either of those for your main school placement then you would spend a whole term at a mainstream school for your second placement in order to receive balanced two school experience and training.

Assessment
The assessment for each trainee takes place via an online portal, the SCITT Portal, where each individual trainee has their own area. Your progress in your professional development as a teacher is evidenced by files which you upload to two assessment documents, the Standards Assessment Document and the Subject Assessment Document. The Standards Assessment Document is where each trainee uploads evidence to show their competence in each section and subsection of the Teacher Standards. The Subject Assessment Document, as its title suggests, is where you evidence the knowledge, understanding and skills related to your subject specific professional development. Both of these documents are continuously assessed throughout the year by your mentors in both of your schools. At the end of the year, these documents are moderated by another subject specialist to ensure consistency and fairness.
