Last year 100% of our trainee teachers passed our initial teacher training course, and we saw an impressive  employment rate for those who sought positions at the end of their course.

Our programme has a unique approach. Your subject specific development is based around your individual development needs. Your mentors will plan your development activity around the areas in which you need to develop whichever route you take in working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

What to expect .....

he nature of our personalised programme means that it is all tailored to your own developmental needs, in terms of both knowledge and skills. We are committed to you receiving a high quality provision of training.

Throughout the year the structure of each week is simple: Monday to Thursday you are in your school based in your subject department, teaching alongside specialist teachers in your subject.  Friday you attend Hub Training. Hub Training is about the generic skills of being a teacher. This training takes place with trainees from all of our subjects.

You will be learning by immersion in both the life of the department and the school. Every class with which you work is one for which a teacher is responsible. Therefore that teacher is there to help you to lead the students' learning. You will plan learning for those students under their guidance. When you are ready, you will teach alongside the teacher, taking parts of lessons and working with particular students in the class. You will plan and deliver whole lessons, with the teacher there to help you to reflect on the lessons, the goal being continuous progress, both for you and the students. When you are ready, you will be left with the class for periods of time, as you do not want the first time that you are alone with a class to be your first as a newly qualified teacher.

An integral part of the course is your second school experience. There you will have the same support structures as in your main school. However, it will be crucial to see the differences that exist between schools, and to learn that there are many approaches to achieving the goal of students' learning to their full potential.
The second school placement is a legal requirement and consists of six weeks (24 school days) in a different school environment to your main school where you must demonstrate the ability to operate successfully.
